What is concrete?
Simply put, concrete is rock (aggregate), cement, and water. These components are combined and mixed to provide the vast amounts of concrete we all see and drive on every day.
Why is steel installed under some concrete?
Steel provides added strength. Concrete is frequently used when very heavy (truck) traffic is anticipated. Steel re-bar greatly enhances the load-bearing capabilities of concrete.
Why does concrete have expansion joints?
Concrete is a very rigid material, and is designed to crack. Installation of strategically placed expansion joints reduces cracking throughout a concrete pad.
